Response to a Freedom of Information Act Request

On March 5, 2016 CFEG received a letter from the U.S. Postal Service in response to a Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA) dated April 1, 2015 requesting, access to certain records that may be in the custody of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service regarding documents reflecting how many people and/or U.S. Postal Service (USPS) workers have been physically injured or killed by identity thieves engaged in robbery of USPS Letter Carrier’s master keys to mailboxes or mail in attempts to commit the crime of identity theft and identity theft tax refund fraud.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service produced four pages of record material (statistics) which are attached. The attached data reflects that there were over 150 robberies and assaults committed throughout the country and one homicide.
